My husband and I stayed at Higher Elms farm in 2001 and learned very much about the area. We ate our evening meal at The Badger. I recently looked up Church Minshull when I ordered flowers from Minshull Nursery and I love your website. It is one of the best! We are from Wisconsin, USA and hope to return some day.

I have just started researching my family tree on my fathers side & it turns out that his grandmothers name was Eachus which ive discovered has long associations with the area.Im hoping at some stage to visit the area to further my research keep up the good work on your website-cheers P.Wright(p.s. did the village pub ever re-open).

Hello.
My husband and are are very keen on buying a house in the village, our only concern is the lack of parking. The lady who lives there currently parks at a neighbours' house but we have a car and a VW camper so are not sure if this would be possible.
Does anyone know if the church or the village hall let local people park there for a regular donation.
Many thanks
Charlotte.

Hi Charlotte, parking is a problem in Church Minshull. If you get to know the people on the village hall that could work but the hall car park is packed on certain nights and the parking overflows all over the main road. People have parked on the Badger Car park as it has been unoccupied for a couple of years but is being redeveloped and will be re-opened by Xmas so that may not be viable option.  The village Hall can now be locked with gates so maybe option but if there is no parking at all with the property that would be a problem. What do the current people do?

Regards,

CM Webmaster

Can someone please tell me who the Minshulls were?
There seems to be alot of places/property named after them.
Also the Courts in Manchester.  I would be most grateful if someone could let me know.
Thanks

My Great Grandfather was Samuel Harrison Bolshaw. His grave is adjacent to the church door in the village. They had a farm in Church Minshull.
I used to own the silver cup which is mentioned on this site, but sent it to auction a couple of years ago. I remember the inscription to do with Joseph Fairhurst and land improvement. I guess he must have been an ancestor of mine, because his name is on the family bible, which I still have.

hi too all at churchminshull, ted and the boys, we used to run the pub back in the early 2000s we are glad to see that the pub is finally having something done to it, after all these years, we have ran so many pubs since then, but we can tell you that we have not been in anything better as the people and place of churchminshull was great for us, good luck with the refurbishment and we hope a lot of the character remains after the refurb, who knows one day we may call. and say hi to you all.

Wish you success in building a pub! (Writing from Czech Republic and consider having the opportunity to go to a pub very important.) Was in your country in 1991 and love your beer!

Hello I'm writing from Australia. I've been researching my ex-husbands family tree for our children and Minshull is one of the names.  It occurs a number of times but in particular I'm researching a Mary Minshull married New York to a Dominick Mazzinghi, they both end up back in England.  Mary's father was John Minshull and there is an indirect connection with the Skeffington family who had positions of authority in the reigns of Henry VII and VIII and afterwards e.g. becoming Sherrifs. Would love to recieve and information anyone out there might have.  regards Susan   sbmhome@hotmail.com

I enjoyed looking at your website. Many years ago I lived in church minshull with my parents Annie and Alvin Parker and four brothers and sister. My dad lived in the village in one of the black and white cottages, I think it was thatched, the cottages were demolished in the 60's.Dad worked for Mr Parton as a farm labourer. We lived at Weaver View  and went to Church Minshull School, when I was about 7 we moved to Willow Tree Farm which belonged to the Partons..A few years ago we went back to Willow Tree, the willow tree was still in the garden, I do remember the day Mrs Parton brought the tiny tree in a plastic bag,dad planted in the garden.

We believe that our family, now living in California, USA, has roots in your area.  The name apparently morphed from MInshull, Minshall and Minshaw to our current spelling of Menshew.  Any information you have would be much appreciated.

As a narrowboat holidaymaker, it was disappointing for us to find out The Badger was closed after making a hungry trek from the canal at bridge 14. If the pub reopens, I really recommend putting lots of signs on the tow path and offering local narrowboat hire firms vouchers for their hirers (e.g Middlewich Narrowboats).

Thanks Richard Armitage

Dear Sir/Madam, I wish to thankyou for the wonderful website that you have here. I am a degree student at the University of York and am currently tracing the origin of my name, and am glad that I found your website and this beautiful little village. If ever there was a sweet rural place, then it is here and it felt almost like a home coming for me..
When I am not doing archaeology, I am a watercolour artist and have a passion for rural places.
All in all thankyou for keeping the history of Minshull alive, which I believe goes way back to the days of the crusades.
