Hi
My Mother and father-in-law both lived in Church Minshull. When they married in 1962 my late mum-in-law Margaret Moody lived at Weaver View and my father-in-law James Lewis was living with his family at the Old Post Office. I recently came through the village to look at the Old Post Office but we were not sure if we looked at the correct house. If any one can remember them or if you can let me know if we did look at the right house (is it still standing) I would much appreciate it.
Many Thanks

Hi Ellen,

I can definitely tell you that it was not Old House, but it could have been Sunnybank or Beech House, both also being Post Offices in the village.

Hello John Headon, I am trying to trace any Hollinsheads descended from the families of Job, David and George Hollinshead, who lived in Church Minshull in the 1800`s. Job only died around 1916, aged 94. Do you have a parish magazine or a local newspaper where I could ask for such information. Ann Ashcroft

Having found this site and taken note of the many comments, I can recommend people to the village website www.churchminshull.org.uk where I do the history pages. The Badger is now open again and a superb pub, restaurant and Inn. The church is always open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from mid May to mid September and has a copy of the complete Births, Deaths and Marriages records to 1851. The Minshulls were mainly buried inside the old church and the present building, the third on the site, was built from 1702-20. The villages of Church Minshull and Minshull Vernon, were formerly all under the one parish church of St. Bartholomew and were commonly refered to as 'The Minshulls'. It's only the River Weaver that seperates the two villages.

I enjoyed looking at your website. Many years ago I lived in church minshull with my parents Annie and Alvin Parker and four brothers and sister. My dad lived in the village in one of the black and white cottages, I think it was thatched, the cottages were demolished in the 60's.Dad worked for Mr Parton as a farm labourer. We lived at Weaver View and went to Church Minshull School, when I was about 7 we moved to Willow Tree Farm which belonged to the Partons..A few years ago we went back to Willow Tree, the willow tree was still in the garden, I do remember the day Mrs Parton brought the tiny tree in a plastic bag,dad planted in the garden.
Thanks,

I am trying to trace an ancestor of mine called Charles Bates who records appear to show was born in Church Minshull about 1839/40. Unfortunately other info. says he was born in Macclesfield. Would Macclesfield have been the registration district perhaps?

Is the name Bates known in the village at all perhaps in church records?

Any info. on any Bates family in the village would be gratefully received.

Many thanks,

D. Hardy.

Was advised about the website by a friend Chris. My maiden name is Bolshaw and I visited the village with my parents in the mid nineties to see the family grave. What a coincidence then to learn that he and his wife Sue had moved to the village. I think that the website is really good.

my grandparents Harriet and Tom Bellamy lived at Brook Cottage Church Minshull in the 1960 s then my gran lived in sheltered housing by the Badger. My father George Bellamy grew up in Church Minshull being attached to the fire station in world war 2 and worked at crewe works.
His ashes were scattered by the little bridge going up the lane to Brook Cottage with kind permission of Mr Parton.
Does anyone know current owner who lives in Brook Cottage as we are coming to the village on 15 th or 16th November 2010 and would like to put some flowers at the spot.
Please email any information

Hi. I am only a Minshull by marriage but we do have a lot of family history.
Our branch goes back to Sir Michael de Minshull who faught with Richard the Lionheart in the Crusades, probably most of yours do too. I live in Leominster and there was actually a Viscount Minshull of Leominster but I can't find out much about him. I went on holiday to Cheshire last year to look for more knowledge about our branch which came from that area. I stopped at Church Minshull and was very disappointed. The pub was undergoing renovation and was closed, there was no one about and the road through was used as a short cut for a lot of traffic from one main road to another. I couldn't get into the Church which was also closed and didn't spot any Minshull graves in the graveyard although I may have not looked hard enough. I felt really let down!

I left a message sometime ago asking if anyone knew anything about the Minshull family and where the name comes from. Has anyone had any thoughts on the matter? We are thinking of visiting Church Minshull again soon and would love to talk to someone about the history of the village if possible.

Kind Ragards

Hi Church Minshull - I am emailing from sunny Perth, Western Australia and am researching my ancestors from the Kettle family.

In 1841, a young 20 year old Joseph Kettle was an Agricultural Labourer at Old Hulgrove Farm, Minshull Vernon, then married Mary Cooper in St Bartholomew’s Church, Church Minshull in 1845.

They lived in Wades Green, Church Minshull, all their lives. In 1851 Joseph was working as a Labourer on a Canal, but later returned to farming. They had eight children including my Great Grandfather William Kettle born in 1858.

When Joseph died in 1865, his eldest girls were old enough to be married or in service, but his widow Mary would have been left with four children under eleven including William age seven. What would have happened to them in those times?!! I lose them until 1880 when William marries Eliza Kirkham in St Peter’s Church, Leighton-cum-Minshull Vernon.

William Kettle was a Railway Platelayer all his life. He and Eliza and their seven children gradually moved up the railway line and ended up living in Sutton Weaver.

I would love to hear from anyone with any information on the Kettles, or Canal building in your area in the 1850s, or Railway building in your area the 1880s and 1890s.

Kind regards

Janet
