Some of the happiest days of my life were spent with my Grandfather & my great aunts at "the Cottage" (almost opposite the village hall). I would spend every holiday I could with them. The delights of helping out on Partons Farm have never left me, and I was greatly privelieged to be able to see a fast disappearing world. Miss Brereton with her ruff collar and cameo brouch weighing out boiled sweets on the brass scales - like something out of Dickens, the last of the plough horses on Partons farm (can't remember the name of the old chap who drove them). One particular hot summer I remember the church organ being refurbished, and spent hours watching the the repair man laying out 100s of intricate parts on the flat tombstones - I was utterly intrigued. The memories are too plentiful to list here. I don't know the current resident of the Cottage (if thats still its name) but if they wish me to see if I can find any old pictures or information then by all means drop me an e-mail.
Happy memories!!

My husband and I stayed at Higher Elms farm in 2001 and learned very much about the area. We ate our evening meal at The Badger. I recently looked up Church Minshull when I ordered flowers from Minshull Nursery and I love your website. It is one of the best! We are from Wisconsin, USA and hope to return some day.

Can someone please tell me who the Minshulls were?
There seems to be alot of places/property named after them.
Also the Courts in Manchester. I would be most grateful if someone could let me know.
Thanks

My Great Grandfather was Samuel Harrison Bolshaw. His grave is adjacent to the church door in the village. They had a farm in Church Minshull.
I used to own the silver cup which is mentioned on this site, but sent it to auction a couple of years ago. I remember the inscription to do with Joseph Fairhurst and land improvement. I guess he must have been an ancestor of mine, because his name is on the family bible, which I still have.

Hello I'm writing from Australia. I've been researching my ex-husbands family tree for our children and Minshull is one of the names. It occurs a number of times but in particular I'm researching a Mary Minshull married New York to a Dominick Mazzinghi, they both end up back in England. Mary's father was John Minshull and there is an indirect connection with the Skeffington family who had positions of authority in the reigns of Henry VII and VIII and afterwards e.g. becoming Sherrifs. Would love to recieve and information anyone out there might have. regards Susan [email protected]

I enjoyed looking at your website. Many years ago I lived in church minshull with my parents Annie and Alvin Parker and four brothers and sister. My dad lived in the village in one of the black and white cottages, I think it was thatched, the cottages were demolished in the 60's.Dad worked for Mr Parton as a farm labourer. We lived at Weaver View and went to Church Minshull School, when I was about 7 we moved to Willow Tree Farm which belonged to the Partons..A few years ago we went back to Willow Tree, the willow tree was still in the garden, I do remember the day Mrs Parton brought the tiny tree in a plastic bag,dad planted in the garden.

We believe that our family, now living in California, USA, has roots in your area. The name apparently morphed from MInshull, Minshall and Minshaw to our current spelling of Menshew. Any information you have would be much appreciated.

Dear Sir/Madam, I wish to thankyou for the wonderful website that you have here. I am a degree student at the University of York and am currently tracing the origin of my name, and am glad that I found your website and this beautiful little village. If ever there was a sweet rural place, then it is here and it felt almost like a home coming for me..
When I am not doing archaeology, I am a watercolour artist and have a passion for rural places.
All in all thankyou for keeping the history of Minshull alive, which I believe goes way back to the days of the crusades.

For all those people who are tracing families who once lived in the village or require historical information, there are now two routes to take! My book entitled 'Too Proud to be Forgot', (taken from a poem of the same name) provides a detailed general history and does not contain the errors of the other recent publication. On sale in church and at the shop in Worleston, priced £15. For geneology from 1640 to 1850 there is a DVD available at £17. Again leave a request in church for a copy or email myself and I will ensure your order is passed on. Please title such emails as Church Minshull so that they are not deleted as spam.
